“Light always travels in a straight line.” But does it, always? What if I tell you that the light can bend? Seems non-intuitive, but come find out how light can bend around massive objects, how gravity, plays a role in this; and what exactly is Gravitational Lensing, in Saieesh’s article on The Wandering Star, a blog by SEDS Celestia. Read more to learn how gravity bends light like a telescope.
Ever wondered what would happen if the Moon gets too closed to the Earth? It may seem on first thought that it’ll simply collide. But what if I tell you that it will be torn apart before reaching the surface of the earth. Surprised? Find out what really happens and learn more about the interesting concept of Roche Limits. Read about it on SEDS Celestia’s blog The Wandering Star.

The Owl Nebula, also known as Messier 97 (M97), is a planetary nebula located in Ursa Major. The nebula lies at an approximate distance of 2,030 light years from Earth. It is known for its distinctive shape, resembling a pair of owl-like eyes, that can be seen in larger telescopes. Learn more about it in this interesting article by our club member Gayatri.

In recent years, physicists have built a network of telescopes called Astrophyical Multimessenger Observatory Network(AMON) to find solutions to some of the deepest problems like Origin of Cosmic rays, Black holes and GRBs. On 2017 September 22, IceCube neutrino observatory found a high energy cosmic neutrino from the direction of a Blazar, TXS0506+056 and immediately sent alerts to all other telescopes like Fermi-LAT gamma ray telescope and lot more to pin point in the same direction of TXS0506+056 and a first successful Multi-messenger data was collected. In this article, we discuss how the Multimessenger Wavelength (MWL) data collected through AMON network is used to particularly answer the question of origin of cosmic rays and its future direction.
